The Ultimate Guide to Pole Heels at Studio K

When it comes to pole dancing, the right pair of heels can make all the difference. At Studio K, we prioritize safety, style, and functionality, which is why we have specific guidelines for pole heels in our classes. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just stepping into your first pair, this guide will help you choose the perfect pole-specific shoes to elevate your performance.

Why Pole Heels Matter

Pole dancing heels aren’t just about aesthetics—they enhance your movement, improve your lines, and provide extra grip on the pole and floor. Unlike regular high heels, pole heels are designed with durability and balance in mind, making them an essential tool for your practice.

Purchasing Your Heels

Pole-specific brands offer styles specifically designed for pole dancing, with reinforced platforms, sturdy construction, and superior ankle support. You’ll find Pleaser, Hella Heels, The Soul Heeling, Coelo, and many more are great choices.

Need larger sizes? Pleaser Pink Label are extended sizes and Hella Heels carries a Wide Fit line.

Choosing the Right Height and Style

Height: Beginners should start with a 6-7 inch heel for better stability and control. Intermediate and advanced students can progress to an 8-9 inch heel.

Boots vs. sandals: At Studio K we prefer you start with a sandal style. Boots are very cute but they can prevent you from building the correct ankle strength. You are welcome to progress to boots once you’re comfortable with intermediate heels moves.

Studio K’s Pole Heel Guidelines

To maintain safety and studio equipment integrity, we ask all students to follow these guidelines when selecting their heels.

Pole-specific heels only: Pole heels are shaped differently from street shoes, fashion shoes, or standard stilettos. Stick to recognized pole brands. with reinforced platforms, sturdy construction, and superior ankle support. Pole shoes worn in pole classes should not be worn outside.

Ankle strap required: Ankle straps provide additional security and prevent slipping.

No glitter (unless coated): Loose glitter can shed onto the floor and equipment, creating a hazard, and frankly, it's annoying for your floorwork friends. Opt for shoes with a sealed or coated glitter finish. If you do purchase a glitter pair, apply 2-3 coats of a sealant like Mod Podge prior to bringing them into the studio.

No metal embellishments (rhinestone strings, chains, etc.): Metal decorations can scratch the pole and pose safety risks. Choose designs without dangling or sharp metal features.

Final Tips for Your Pole Heels

  • Break them in: Wear them around the house before bringing them to the studio to get comfortable.

  • Check for wear and tear: Inspect your heels regularly to ensure they’re in good condition.

  • Keep them clean: Wipe down the soles and uppers to remove dust and sweat, keeping them grippy and in top shape. Do not wear your heels outside.

Class Options

Our All-Levels Heels class is a great place to get started in your heels! You’ll learn heel technique on and off the pole. We'll go over sexy walks, fluid movement, transitions, clacks, and more! Must be comfortable in half-bracket grip spins and pole pirouettes.

For most other classes (Pole, Low Flow, Floorwork, etc.), once you’ve got the basics down you can wear your heels. Your instructor will let you wear heels after the warmup and conditioning has completed.

With the right pair of heels, your pole journey at Studio K will be even more empowering and exhilarating. Got additional questions not covered above? Send us an email at info@studiokpole.com.
