So you're thinking about trying pole in Bremerton. Maybe you've been eyeing Studio K's Instagram for months, or a friend dragged you into it, or you just woke up one day and decided it was time. Whatever brought you here, welcome. Here's exactly what your first class will look like, so you can walk in feeling confident instead of nervous.
You don't need any experience
This is the big one, so let's get it out of the way first: you do not need dance experience, flexibility, or upper body strength to start. Studio K's classes are built for every body, every fitness level, and every kind of person. You just need to show up as you are.
Choosing your first class
Studio K offers two ways to get started as a beginner:
Intro to Studio K: offered about once a month
Intro to Pole: added to the schedule 2-4 times a month as a supplement, so you're not stuck waiting weeks for the next round
If neither option lines up with your schedule, Studio K also offers private and semi-private Intro to Pole lessons. Just email info@studiokpole.com to set one up.
Before you go: what to wear and bring
Wear: Comfortable clothing that leaves some skin exposed on your arms and legs, or grippy material, think shorts and a tank top, a sports bra, or a cute pole outfit if you're feeling it. Grip is what keeps you on the pole, so skip the lotion or oils that day, and leave the jewelry at home.
Bring: Just yourself and a water bottle. If you forget one, there's a water cooler on site.
Footwear: Socks or barefoot both work.
When to arrive
Doors open ten minutes before class starts, and since this is your first time, you'll want to use that window. Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early to check in, sign the studio waiver, and get oriented. Your teacher will walk you through the locker room, water fountain, and restroom before class begins. Once class starts, whether you're in Intro to Pole or Intro to Studio K, you'll also get an in-depth overview of the studio itself.
What actually happens in class
Once you're checked in, here's the rough flow of your first session:
Introductions. You'll meet your instructor and the other students in class with you. Pole classes tend to be small and personal, so don't be surprised if you know everyone's name by the end.
Studio orientation. Before any movement starts, you'll get that in-depth overview of Studio K, where things are, how the space works, and what to expect from the culture here.
Warmup. Class kicks off with a warmup to get your body ready to move, raise your heart rate a little, and loosen up the muscles you're about to use.
Pole fundamentals. This is the heart of class. You'll learn how to grip the pole, how to move around it safely, and your first few beginner-friendly moves. Your instructor will break everything down step by step, so there's no pressure to "get it" right away, everyone in the room is learning too.
Optional freestyle. Once you've got a feel for the basics, there's usually a bit of freestyle time where you can play around with what you've just learned. This part is completely optional, some people love it, others would rather keep drilling the moves, and both are fine.
Cool down. Class wraps with a cool down to stretch things back out and let your body settle before you head home.
By the end, you'll have learned real moves, met people, and gotten a full feel for what ongoing classes at Studio K are like.
Who it's for
